Honor and Empower Educators

Teachers and support staff are the backbone of our schools. I will honor their voices, champion their work, and ensure they have the training, tools, and support they need to help students thrive.

Additionally, I want to actively encourage young people to explore the benefits and blessings of a career in education.  We have great kids in Shelby County Schools.  Efforts and initiatives  that encourage our students to come back home and work in our schools, support their communities, and discover the rewards of a life spent in the service of children.

Parents and Staff Working as Partners

 Schools are the most effective when parents and staff work together for the benefit of all students.  This means bringing a "listen to understand" mindset to conversations, where we seek understanding and solutions that benefit all children.

 

Our teachers and staff work hard.  We are proud of the work we do to meet the needs of our students.  Transparency with curriculum and learning objectives lead to clarity , and that leads to stronger partnerships with the end result being children who feel safe, supported, and ready to grow.

Strengthen Public Schools

I will advocate for strong, vibrant public schools that prepare students to become informed citizens capable of engaging in meaningful civic life.  Our schools should honor and respect our values and encourage kids to invest in their communities.   This powerful practice prepares our kids to lead and invest in their communities today and in the future. 

 

We are happiest and most at peace when we are in service to a cause greater than ourselves.  Service learning, then, is a critical piece to preparing students for a successful life.  Leadership development cannot be an extra for a strong school system; instead, it must be a foundational component.  Intentionally cultivating leadership capacity in students and staff leads to better results for students and the communities they serve.

Expand Innovation and Opportunity

From career pathways to advanced coursework and modern learning tools, I am committed to expanding opportunities for every student—regardless of their background, interests, or aspirations.

​

Age appropriate literacy, writing and critical thinking allow students space to grow as thinkers and communicators.  Classroom activities that focus on discussion, peer collaboration and student-teacher interaction make for vibrant classroom cultures that pull kids into learning.  Classrooms that emphasize exploration, movement, and applied learning help students make learning permanent.

Continuing to explore and add new Career Technical Education programs offer great examples of applied math and science, and collaborative skills that equip students for longterm success.  ​

Practice Fiscal Responsibility

I will protect taxpayer resources by ensuring that tax dollars are used responsibly, transparently, and with a clear purpose that benefits students and staff.   I will advocate for strategic investments that directly strengthen teaching and learning across the district. Responsible stewardship means evaluating spending priorities, eliminating inefficiencies, and directing resources where they will have the greatest impact on student success.

Our focus will be on improving classroom resources, enhancing school safety, and expanding the support systems students and educators need to thrive. This includes investing in modern instructional materials, age-appropriate technology that supports effective learning, and professional learning that empowers teachers to do their best work.

Build Strategic Community Partnerships

I will continue forging connections with parents, businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders to ensure every school serves as a hub of community pride, support, collaboration, and opportunity.  These partnerships build connection, trust, and expand opportunities for all students.  

​

Furthermore, these partnerships work "hand in glove" with the need to be fiscally sound.  By working toward win-win partnerships with local businesses, we help to expand opportunities for our students and ensure our communities continue to grow and thrive for years to come.
